Powder Room
About This Spot
Stepping into Powder Room feels like slipping into a hidden corner of the city where time slows and conversations deepen. Nestled quietly on W 5th Street, this intimate cocktail bar embraces a rare breath of old-school charm in a modern world—its defining feature, a deliberate and thoughtful no-phone policy, gently nudging guests to be present and truly connect.
The atmosphere is at once warm and charged with a quiet energy. Soft lighting casts a subtle glow over plush seating and a sleek bar, inviting you to settle in without distraction. The hum of nearby conversations blends with carefully chosen music that aims to enhance rather than overwhelm, setting the stage for moments that feel both relaxed and charged with possibility.
Every visit here is a small ceremony—handing over your phone and slipping on a key bracelet quietly encourages a focus on the company around you and the craft unfolding behind the bar. The cocktail program complements this experience, offering classic drinks with a thoughtful touch that suits the intimate setting. Whether you’re easing into a date night or sharing a glass with friends, the drinks are part of the rhythm of meaningful presence rather than the main act.
There's a gentle pulse to the place, especially during the daily happy hour, where familiarity grows among regulars and first-timers alike. It’s a spot that rewards lingering, whether you arrive early or settle in later when the room buzzes a bit more, always maintaining an air of cozy exclusivity.
Powder Room fosters a welcome sense of pause, inviting you to reclaim the joy of face-to-face interaction in a city teeming with distractions. It’s the kind of place where you leave marked not only by the taste of a well-made cocktail but by genuine moments—a rare treasure for those looking to connect beyond the screen.

I love the concept of no phones—it really allows guests to be present and enjoy the moment. It brought me back to how things used to be before smartphones: meeting someone, jotting down information on a napkin, or letting fate decide if you’ll cross paths again. The lounge itself is sexy and cozy, with a great bar atmosphere. My only downside was the music; it didn’t quite match the vibe I was hoping for. I was expecting something smoother and sexier to really complement the space. Overall, a great concept and ambiance, with just a small opportunity to elevate the experience through better music curation.

Cool speakeasy with a strict no phone rule. (They confiscate your phone when you check in.) Great vibe, good people watching. Espresso martinis were tasty, but smallish and expensive for the size. Definitely worth visiting at least once.

Went for a quick cocktail before dinner, on our anniversary. The ambiance was great, nice music, great service, and we enjoyed the drink. I recommend making a reservation if you go on a Saturday. And, plan to be present as they have a no phone policy (which was nice).

Rating: 4.1/5 [dine in] The Powder Room is a speakeasy with a strict no phone rule. They take your phone when you check in and give you a key bracelet so you can pick it up on your way out. They have a daily happy hour from 4 to 6 PM where you can get $12 classic cocktails and half off all food items. The vibe is perfect for date nights because it feels very intimate. However, when it's busy, it can get overcrowded and you will likely hear other people's conversations since the tables and chairs are so close to each other. Service can also be pretty slow as well so if you're in a rush, inform your serve beforehand or flag them down when you're ready to leave. We have been here a few times and noticed that their menu has changed. Most of the cocktails we have tried were good. Before the menu changed, we had the Icarus Agenda ($19) and Not a Penny More ($17). There is a pandan drink that is delicious, but the espresso martini is a hard pass. It was very basic with no garnish or foam on top and honestly did not taste very good. Food during happy hour is great for sharing or as a pre dinner snack since the portions are small. The fries were addicting. If you have never been here, I do recommend coming at least once for the experience. It is a cool concept and the ambiance is memorable. Definitely make a reservation, especially if you're coming during peak times.

Hands down one of my favorite cocktail bars in Austin! Have been coming here almost every weekend for the last year. Everyone that I bring falls in love with it. Personally I love the concept of the no phone policy. It forces people to converse and have a good time without being distracted with their phones. Wish more bars had the same concept. I love the staff and look forward to seeing them every time I see them. Emily has always been so kind and welcoming when checking our phones in. Tyler is my favorite bar tenders. You really do have to cut the team some slack because it’s one of the most popular bars in Austin and they do their best when they’re working. I can see how things get overwhelming and they’re just trying to do their jobs. I see it almost every weekend and some weekends things do get kind of hectic and busy for them. It will always be on the top of my list that I recommend when people visit Austin. None of my friends have been disappointed with their experience there. Truly one of my favorites! Also music is 10/10

We had our wedding party here and it was nothing short of INCREDIBLE! We chose this place because of the vibes, the music, the drinks and the food. They make a perfect dirty martini. The place is gorgeous and makes for the best pictures too. The cherry on top is the awesome owners and their incredible staff. I truly can’t say enough good things! Our wedding party was everything we could have wanted and more. This team truly took care of us. Oh, and their DJ Nick is awesome!! Special shoutouts to Tiffany, Michael, and Adam.
